General Lafayette - 1824 Scovill Button Restrike, (1917). Gilt Bronze. 20 mm. Bust of Washington facing left, rev. PRESENTED TO GENERAL LAFAYETTE BY L.H. & SCOVILL.BUTTON MANUFACTURES. WATERBURY CON. On eagle suspender and ribbon. During his 1824 visit to the United States, General Lafayette was presented with 16 gold buttons by what would become the famous Scovill company of Waterbury, CT. In 1917, these buttons were restruck and turned into medallets for sale at the Allied Bazaar being held in Waterbury. Cf.
