Under Tron's reign, Venice secured Cyprus and arrested Ottoman movement in the area through its alliance with the local ruler Uzan Hassan Beg. Venice's military activities, though, were expensive causing Tron to reform its coinage, which included a new denomination, named after himself the "Trono." The new coin proved very unpopular and Venetians were offended by the Doge's self-promotion. The coin was withdrawn immediately after Tron's death in 1473. Toned over old light hairlines, slightly grainy. Full, broad flan. Very Fine.
