Anglo-Gallic. Edward III (1327-1362, 1372-1377). Gros au léopard passant. 1.98 gms. Cross pattée intersecting only the inner legend, ED-REX-ANG-LIE, rev. Leopard passant left between lines; +DVX (double annulet) AGIT?NIE, within tressure of arches with leaves. Galata 66-(2/b), Elias 59 (RRRR), S.8057, B.--, Poey d'Avant--, Dup.1063. This rare type was imitated in Bergerac by Henry as Earl of Lancaster and must therefore be dated to the 1347-1351 period. Near Very Fine. For the type it is choice -- nearly all specimens are poorly struck on irregular flans -- and is likely the finest specimen that has been offered in public auction - see Elias plate to compare.
