Hemingway, Ernest. Author and journalist, larger than life figure of the 20th Century, known for his spare, tight prose and life of adventure; Nobel Prize winner in 1954 for literature; many of his works are considered classics of American literature such as "The Sun Also Rises," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "A Farewell to Arms," and "The Old Man and the Sea;" and both his public image and his prose proved great influences on later generations. Autograph, signed in bold hand "yours very truly Ernest Hemingway" in pencil on a 5 ¾ x 3" slip of paper. The recipient has penciled below "on boat". Accompanied by a xerox of a typed itinerary for Mrs. David Silverman and four friends for a transatlantic cruise aboard the SS Independence (with subsequent land travel in Spain), leaving NY April 25, 1959 and arriving Algeciras, Spain May 1 - the trip, apparently in which they encountered Hemingway and got his autograph. Very Fine.
