French Indo-China - Vietnam. Gold leaf sheet, ca. 1920-1960's. Pure gold, 14.58 grams. Thin uniface rectangular sheet with Shou Xing, god of longevity and prosperity at top with deer and bat; below: THAI-SON SAIGON OR PUR VANG-LA and Chinese characters. Used as payment for large transactions, these gold sheets retained their value against fluctuations of the Piastre that were imposed by the West. Their usage continued in South Vietnam. Uncirculated.
