This certificate is framed with a reproduction of an engraving of Robert Morris; it does not have the 2 quills as described. William Temple Franklin was the illegitimate grandson of American statesman, Benjamin Franklin. A prominent land speculator, as evidenced by this certificate, he served as a diplomat to France during the Revolutionary War and was part of the delegation that negotiated the Treaty of Paris in 1783, effectively ending the Revolution.
