Wagner Palace Car Co., $100 shares, 189[2], #1729, issued to and signed by James Fargo, signed as President by William Seward Webb, lovely trio of vignettes at top with steam train in centre and views of stations either side, brown and black, hole cancelled, a few pin holes at left, but VF.

Founded by Webster Wagner in 1858, the company started as the New York Central Sleeping Car Co., in partnership with Cornelius Vanderbilt, as his New York Central Railroad was the main user of the first coaches. Later the company was involved in legal suits regarding the use of Pullman seating in the carriages, and eventually sold to the latter company in 1900.
James C. Fargo (1829-1915), co-founder of American Express, succeeded his brother William G. Fargo as President of the company in 1881.
William Seward Webb (1851-1926), married daughter of William H. Vanderbilt, Eliza, and subsequently worked for Vanderbilt taking over the Wagner Palace Car Co. after the death of it's founder Wagner in 1883. Webb followed this career in the railway business later building and running the Mohawk and Malone Railway.
