Montana Railway Co. (MT), $100 shares, Boston 18[92], #30, issued to Jay Gould, signed by Silas Clark as Vice President, ornate border, green, stamp cancelled, counterfoil re-glued at left, VF and apparently the only one issued (to confirm)

Jay Gould (1836-1892), Director of the Erie Railroad from 1867, became involved in stock-market manipulation while competing for control over the company. This and his efforts to corner the Gold market caused the events of Black Friday on 24th September 1869. He continued on to hold financial control over 15% of the country's railways based in the Pacific Southwest by the 1880's.
