Monroe, James. Fifth President of the United States (1817-1825); last president who was a Founding Father of the U.S., served in the 3rd Virginia Regiment in the Revolutionary War, severely wounded at the Battle of Trenton, delegate-Continental Congress, U.S. Minister to the United Kingdom and France, Governor of Virginia (1799-1802, 1811), secretary of state prior to presidency. Autograph Document Signed "James Monroe" as President. U.S. land grant registration, August 20, 1823. Vellum, printed and written, 16 x 9 ¾". Certificate No. 841 issued to John Blake of Clark County, Illinois for 80 acres of land in Terre Haute, Indiana. Monroe signs bottom right, paper seal affixed at left. Ink in written entries somewhat weak, signature, though, is strong. Fine.
