Grand Army of the Republic Veterans Medal. Awarded to David S. Bartram, 2nd Lieutenant, Company "G", 17th Connecticut Volunteers. Gold-plated bronze star on Stars and Stripes ribbon with eagle and crossed cannon top suspender. Accompanied by 17th Connecticut Volunteers badge with Chancellorsville and Gettysburg bars and Siege of Forts Wagner & Sumpter crescent on red ribbon with top suspension bar -- Rare, 17th Conn. Vols. 32nd Anniversary ribbon (cut and fraying at bottom), and G.A.R. lapel badge. With original box of mailing with 2 small banknote 2 Cent Carmine stamps (1890-93) franked "Brooklyn, NY". 2nd Lt. David S. Bartram (born Redding, Fairfield County, CT 1834-died 1898) was captured as a prisoner of war at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1, 1863. He was held at a number of Confederate prisons - Libby, Dansville, Macon, Columbia, Savannah, Charleston and Goldsboro - until he was paroled March 1, 1865 near Wilmington, NC. He is buried in Hull Cemetery, Redding, CT. Extremely Fine. (5)
