Scarce Fully-Framed CSA T-12 $5 1861 Manouvrier Note
PF-1 Cr.46. Manouvrier, V in circular counter at left, 5 in circular counter, right. Blue back with CONFEDERATE STATES in an arch at the top. Jules Manouvrier, a prominent New Orleans lithographer and printer, printed this famous note, but had his contract cancelled by the Confederate authorities. Because of its light blue color, the back design quickly faded on most notes and the simplistic design could be easily counterfeited. To make matters worse, Maneuvrier failed to ship the notes securely, and the entire issue of $10 notes was destroyed. T-12 notes are scarce in all grades, and particularly difficult to locate with a full-framed back with vivid blue color, as this example exhibits.
Overall appearance of Very Fine; small repair under the Treasurer's signature.
