A Scot emigrant, Richard Dobie, in partnership with Francis Badgley, bought and sold furs and sold supplies to fur traders. The partners are believed to have been Canada's first private bankers. Their notes were payable on sight. Dobie retired after 1790 with an impressive fortune. Badgley later became a member of the legislative assembly and presided over the committee for the abolition of slavery in the province. He served in the War of 1812 as a captain of the militia. EF-AU, two paper thins top border, a few small pinholes noted. Rare.
