Canada/Great Britain. On the Marriage of the Duke of Connaught to Princess Louise of Prussia, 1879. Silver. 64mm. 154.9 gms. By J.S. & A.B. Wyon. Conjoined busts of Prince Arthur and Princess Louise Margaret left, rev.. Crowned armorial shields of each, British crown above, ribbon and spray below, all within an ornamental quatrefoil. Eimer 1662, BHM 3052, WE 1350. While on military service in Canada from 1869 to 1870, Prince Arthur made a great impression. In October 1869, he was given the title "Chief of the Six Nations" by the Iroquois of the Grand River Reserve, and in 1870 he helped fend off the Fenian raiders. He returned to Canada as its Governor-General in 1911 after his appointment by his nephew King George V. Toned. NGC AU 58.
