Pemba. Rupee. C/m pembeh in Arabic in clove-shaped cartouche on East India Company Rupee, 1840 (continuous legend - KM 457, Y.4). Single c/m vertically on Victoria's face. Cf.KM-X13. Unlisted (on this host) in KM, but type known and recorded. Lying off the East African coast, Pemba, part of the Spice Islands, is well known for its clove production. Rich slate and pale purple tone. Extremely Fine. A much sought-after fantasy issue.
