Auction: 320 - The Numismatic Collector's Series Sale and the Forest Park Collection
Lot: 2562
Nevada Silver Company Ingot. Undated, 6.26 ounces, .999 Fine. The circular imprint of the Nevada Silver Company is featured at the upper obverse followed vertically by: 999 FINE/ 6.26 OZS (errantly imprinted first upside down)/ VAL. $8.07. The upper edge is also imprinted "No. 261". Smooth, pleasing, and exhibiting a nice pale grey hue with subtle golden undertones. Operating out of Rawhide, Nevada, this company was active from 1919 until its eventual demise in 1932. Poetically, the town of Rawhide no longer exists, and is now the sight of one of the largest open pit gold mines in the United States. The elusive ingots of this long defunct silver marketing endeavor appear at auction quite sparingly, and are eagerly gobbled up by collectors of early ingots.
