California Fractional Gold. No Date (1870-1871) Liberty Head Round Quarter Dollar. BG-834 (High R-5). An interesting transitional issue in that there is no date (the coins dated 1870 struck from this obverse die and maker bore the date on the reverse, and the reverse employed here was used on both this issue as well as other varieties dated 1871 on the obverse). Choice Brilliant Uncirculated in terms of initial appearance. Closer examination, however, indicates the presence of some deceptive hairlines. Quite scarce and of importance to collectors within this specialty.
