Musicians and Composers - NY Bohemian Club, Siegfried Kahn. A fascinating collection of autograph photos and dinner programs of NY and Boston-area performers largely associated with New York's Bohemian Club and autographed/presented to Siegfried Kahn. A member of the NY musicians' organization, the Bohemian Club, Kahn was famed as host for musical parties in the 1920's and 1930's: Lot includes *) Sepia photos (2) of the Kneisel Quartet (1885-1917) -- Boston ensemble regarded as the leading quartet in the U.S. -- signed by members 'Franz Kneisel, Hans Letz, Willem Willeke' and 'Louis Svecenski'. One penned to Kahn, the other to pianist and composer Sigmund Herzog (small tear at edge); *) Illustrated program for April 27, 1921 dinner in honor of Artur Bodanzky (1877-1939), Austrian-American conductor associated with Wagnerian operas, the back page dedicated to Kahn and signed by over a score musicians and entertainers: 'Artur Bodansky, L. Auer…' etc; *) B&W photo of Leopold Auer, dedicated and signed 'Leop. Auer, New York 1922' - a renowned violinist, Auer (1845-1930) was musical pedagogue to Heifetz, Zimbalist, etc.; *) Sepia photo of Jacques Danielson, dedicated and signed 'Jacques Danielson New York 1928' -- Russian-born pianist Danielson was married to novelist Fannie Hurst; *) 10 ½ x 13 ½" b&w photo of Channing Pollock (1877-1939, playwright and critic) dedicated and signed 'Channing Pollok 1922'; *) B&W photo of composer Leonard Liebling dedicated and signed 'Leonard Liebling' (small repaired tear); *) 'Surprise Dinner' Programs (2) for Leopold Godowsky at the Astor Hotel, 1935 - Polish-American pianist and composer Leopold Godowsky (1870-1938) was one of the most highly regarded performers of his time; *) Program for dinner given by "The Bohemians" in honor of Serge Koussevitzky, April 1, 1929 - the Russian-born conductor, Koussevitzky (1874-1951) was musical director of the Boston Symphony (1924-1949) *) other photos (8) - all signed and dedicated [one to Herzog] (one with tear); *) small Frank R. Ford photo of four children - related to Kahn?; also *) Franco-Prussian war memorial document; and *) small illustration presented to Kahn. The photos generally larger format. All stored in 'Curtis Bell Photographer' folio envelope with label inscribed "Mrs. S. H. Kahn 135 Central Park West". Well-preserved and Fine. A rewarding grouping. [21]
