Lincoln, Abraham. Sixteenth President of the United States (1861-1865), guided the nation through the Civil War until assassinated by actor John Wilkes Booth; initially a moderate on the issue of slavery, the war compelled him to fight successfully for emancipation. Remnant of silk flag from Lincoln Funeral Train. Narrow, 7 ½" strip - red and yellowed white -- from a 36-star flag said to have adorned one of the funeral railroad cars in the Lincoln funeral train for the duration of its stop in Indianapolis, IN, April 30, 1865. The flags were locally made, and after the train's departure, the flags were given to prominent Indianapolis families. Some fraying. Very Good. Matted with caption and copy of photo of funeral train.
