A rare and early example documenting the activities in the Great Lakes region of this very important early American company.
Michilimackinac is a name for the region around the Straits of Mackinac between Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. The American Fur Company, under its founder John Jacob Astor, conducted operations as far as the Columbia River on the Pacific coast. In 1834 the company was purchased by Ramsay Crooks and associates. Its active operations ceased in 1847. The company dealt mainly in furs, but it also was involved in fishing.
