On City of Richmond paper, it is attested that "James Ricks, a black man…was born free, in this city as appears by the testimony of James Z. Goode, and registered by order of Court…" Signed by "Wm Lambert". Court of Hustings seal at bottom. Fold splits and some scattered staining, clear writing Good.
