Custer, George Armstrong Interesting Autograph Document Signed "GA Custer," 1 page, narrow oblong 8vo, Louisville, KY, March 3, 1872. A bank check drawn on the Planters National Bank of Louisville, payable to "Grinstead & Bradley or order / Two Thousand five hundred & eighty & 38/100 Dollars." Transferred on verso. Small holes at left not near writing, VG. Grinstead and Bradley were bankers, so it is difficult to say what this very large payment was for. However, given the location, we suspect this is another purchase of a thoroughbred horse. Oddly, this is not noted among the horse purchases listed in Custer´s ledger, above, but as that book has only a few entries over the course of two years, we can conclude that it was not the only ledger book he kept.
