American Revolution: Jonathan Trumbull Governor of Connecticut as both a colony and a state (1710-85, served 1769-84); one of the only colonial governors to support Independence. Beautiful Manuscript Document Signed "Jonth: Trumbull" as governor, 1 page, oblong folio, New Haven, November 4, 1774. He names Mathew Talcott "Major of the sixth Regiment of Horse and Foot; in said Colony...to...Repel pursue and destroy by force of Arms and by all fitting Ways and Means, all his Majestys Enemies..." With wax and paper embossed colonial seal at left. Clean partial splits at both horizontal and vertical folds, but handsome and VG. Mathew Talcott was also a member of the state assembly. In 1776 he was sent to New York to serve under George Washington and fought with him in the Battle of Long Island.
