Connecticut Telephone Co (CT), Shares, New Haven, 1881, #63 and higher, early telephone mouthpiece, black, heavily pen canceled, stubs reattached over some of text left, several with edge chipping, about VF and better. New Haven was the first US city to use a telephone exchange, built in 1878, though it could handle only two lines at a time; previously, phones were sold in pairs and could only be used to communicate between two locations.
