American Merchants Union Express Co (NY), $100 shs, 1869, signed by William G Fargo as president, horse-drawn express cart with cargo, train and ship, "safety & dispatch" banner with dog and key, shaking hands, black with red countersignature warning, imprinted revenue stamp, lightly cut canceled touching signature, one with stain from verso revenue stamp, soiling, good VF. This company was formed in 1868 when William S Fargo (1818-81) and his partners merged American Express with its competitor, Merchants Union Express. [3]
