†1888 (10 Apr.) opened-out envelope addressed to Ohio "Via San Francisco" bearing 1879 1c. light blue and 1883 2c. light browish red pair (glue stains) tied by bars obliterator and showing type III Shanghai Agency oval datestamp alongside, the reverse bears a good strike of "local postal agency nanking" handstamp in bluish plus Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. and San Francisco transit. A very rare cover, it is thought that there are only about five such Nanking/U.S. combination covers. Scott 182, 210 Estimate £ 2,000-2,500
