†1882 (15 July) envelope from Hankow, registered to North Marshfield "Via San Francisco" bearing 1879 5c. blue in a horizontal strip of three (straight edge at left) and pair paying the triple rate plus 10c. registration and cancelled by black ink brush strokes, the strip tied by a fine strike of the rare "u.s. postal agency shanghai/registered" c.d.s. in red, showing date error with straight-line "registered" in red alongside, the reverse with a faint strike of "customs/hankow" c.d.s. and "customs/shanghai" c.d.s. in red, the latter overstruck by San Francisco four-line registration datestamp in violet. The cover has a horizontal crease at top (running through the adhesives) and a repaired tear at right. An item of paramout importance, only three or four examples of this registration c.d.s. are recorded, this being the only example in red.
