1862 (16 Apr.) entire letter to Augustine Heard in Boston "Via Marseilles", from his nephew, George, bearing "2/2" rate mark in red crayon (paying the extra 12c. for a 1/2oz. letter via Marseilles), Shanghai Paid despatch c.d.s., London Paid and "boston.am.pkt/5" c.d.s. with Shanghai and Hong Kong c.d.s. on flap which opens for display, fine. Contents give details including how their boat made a record passage from Hankow (9 days and 9 hours) easily beating the rival vessel of Russell Sturgis. Estimate £ 100-120
