9d. bistre, plate 3, OF, overprinted "specimen" type 6, cancelled by part strikes of the black London squared circle datestamp (Charing Cross office) dated 25 May 1886; fine and most unusual. A number of early Surface-Printed Specimen issues and 1840 Mulready 2d. are known cancelled around this date and are the result of an arrangement between a stamp dealer based in the Strand and a Post Office employee at the Charing Cross office.
