Auction: 3028 - The "Grant" Collection of Stamps & Postal History of Great Britain
Lot: 2059

Plate IX, QJ, good to large margins, on piece tied by superb, almost complete strike of the black "bath/se 21/1840/d" double-arc datestamp; small surface scrape at top left and slightly shiny surface suggesting pressed wrinkling at top, otherwise fine. Extremely attractive. R.P.S. Certificate (1980) states "stained" which seems to be an overly harsh reference to the slightly oily cancellation ink. This plate was not registered until 9 November 1840 and it seems likely the "SE" month slug was inserted in error. Photo Estimate £ 600-700
