They were later purchased back by the Royal Mint during the 18th Century. This unique piece was probably made while the dies were out of the Royal Mint during the transition of the 17-18th Centuries. It is the latest possible striking from the obverse die and shows quite clearly how the die flaw has developed; which is of course still evident on the original obverse die in the Royal Mint.
