D.C.M. London Gazette 14.11.1916, 2nd. Bn., G. Gds, 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion as a signaller, when he was out in the open under heavy fire for 24 hours consecutively endeavouring to establish communications, which he eventually succeeded in doing. He has on previous occasions been noted for great coolness and bravery.'
