A Rare and Interesting Pair to J McKinnell, Assistant Surgeon Royal Navy, and Surgeon, Army Medical Service
Baltic (John McKinnnell Act. Apt. Surgeon. H.M.S. 'Orion'), engraved in large serif captitals; Mutiny, no clasp (Asst Surgn J. McKinnell 73rd Regt), good very fine or better, on 'double' silver riband bar, reverse stamped 'I.B. Bailey, Coventry' (2)

Assistant Surgeon John McKinnell (1833-69), from Dumfries, Scotland; after service in the Baltic in H.M.S. Orion was discharged from the Royal Navy at his own request, October 1855; he was invalided on account of a disease of the lungs; he later reported his health restored and twice asked, unsuccessfully, to be re-admitted to the Navy; successfully applied to the Army, and was admitted as Assistant Surgeon, 73rd Foot, 4 June 1858.
