Naval General Service 1793-1840, two clasps, 23rd June 1795, Trafalgar (John Clark, Midshipman), deep edge scratches to naming area, otherwise very fine

Commander John Clark, born 1777, entered the Royal Navy as Ordinary Seaman, 1794 in H.M.S.Russel and took part as Midshipman in Lord Bridport's actions off Isle de Groix, Brittany 23.6.1795. Serving in Indefatigable he assisted at the capture of the French frigate La Venus together with two heavy French privateers, returning home as Prize-Master in one of them. Later in 1801 he joined Theseus and in her boats boarded and carried a French cutter and 13 merchant vessels in Port Jeremie, St Domingo. Transferring to Hercule, Decenber 1803, Mr Clark was present throughout the attack upon Curacoa early in 1804. Appointed Lieutenant April 1805 into the Thunderer, and during his three years or so in her took part in the battle of Trafalgar, commanded a party of seamen at the siege of Gaeta, was present at the passage of the Dardanelles and was noticed during the expedition to Egypt. On 26.8.1809 he was appointed to command No.73 gun-boat and a division of the flotilla stationed near Fort Lillo for the attack upon Walcheren. Placed on half-pay 1836, he was made Retired Admiral in 1837.
