Philip and Mary, Angel, 5.10g., St. Michael of new style with large wings, standing slaying the dragon, reads regin, rev. ship of new style with upturned castles, p and m at sides, riding on a turbulent sea, reads mirabi, beaded/wireline inner circles, pellet stops, m.m. lis (c.f. Schneider 728 var.; N.1965; S.2496B/A), obverse slightly double struck, some discoloured glue on surface, otherwise good fine, extremely rare Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 Philip and Mary Angels with beaded inner circles on both sides are extremely rare, there being four known examples. An apparently unique coin with wireline/beaded inner circles was sold in Spink Auction 124, lot 1738. This coin, the reverse mule with beaded/wireline inner circles, is also apparently unique and previously unrecorded.
