Italy, a rectangular red buckram covered case 15.5 x 6 cm. lined with white velvet and silk containing three medals, bronze gilt, silver and bronze, 41 mm., by Gaetano Manfredini, depicting the bust of a young man and inscribed franciscvs hayes - pictor, rev. venetvs within a closed wreath of oak, medals practically mint state, case in good condition Estimate £ 200-250 Francesco Hayez, born 10 February 1791 at Venice, died 10 February 1881 at Milan. Historical painter and of religious compositions, mythological scenes and genre painting. Bénézit notes that Hayez was the best known representative of the Italian academic school of the 19th century.
