Engravings: William Hogarth Beautiful pair of copper Engravings by William Hogarth (1697-1764), satirizing English politics in the 18th century. "The Lottery," 10" x 13", depicts an elaborate scene full of allegorical figures representing the possibilities and temptations of this method of raising revenue. "The South Sea," 10-1/2" x 13", shows various allegorical characters in London following the South Sea scheme to ruin, with the inscription on a monument, "This monument was erected in memory of the destruction of this city by the South Sea in 1720." Both have explanatory keys at bottom. Both are in fine condition. Each is matted, overall sizes 16" x 20" and 16-3/4" x 20", respectively. Estimate US$ 300-400
