Manuscript Ephemera: Spender-Clay Archive An accumulation of letters and related pieces concerning the family of Lieutenant-Colonel Herbert Spender-Clay, (1875-1937) graduate of Eton and Sandhurst, who joined the Second Life Guard in 1896 and served with distinction in the Boer War. A Conservative MP for the Tonbridge Division of Kent from 1910 until his death in 1937, he exercised considerable influence in the House of Commons. There is also a Register of Wedding Gifts from the October 29, 1904 marriage of Spender-Clay and Pauline Astor, with many unexpected entries. A very interesting collection, worthy of attention.
