Whittier, John Greenleaf American poet, editor and abolitionist (1807-92). Brief ALS "very truly thy friend, John G. Whittier," 1p, 12mo [3.9" x 4.9"], Amesbury, [MA], 1/6/1870. He writes an unnamed friend, "I have no copeis [sic] of the early book ´Legends of N.E. [sic] referred to in thy kind letter..." In very good condition. Legends of New England, published in 1831, was Greenleaf´s first major work. Estimate US$ 150-200
