Penn, John English colonial official (1729-95); one of the last Proprietors of the Colony of Pennsylvania and grandson of founder William Penn; colonial Lieutenant-Governor until the Declaration of Independence. DS "John Penn" and by his son "John Penn, junr.," 1p, narrow oblong folio, on vellum, Philadelphia, 2/14/1786. An indenture whereby the Penns, "...late Proprietaries of Pennsylvania" for the amount of "One hundred and twelve Pounds ten shillings" convey a parcel of land near in Montgomery County, PA to Christopher Ottinger, who had sold the land in 1775 without first securing proper title. With witnesses and with the Penns´ red wax seals. VG. Pennsylvania was unusual in its willingness to compensate its Colonial proprietors, as shown here. Estimate US$ 200-300
