[Fremont, John C.] American explorer, politician, and soldier (1813-90); explored the western territories; first Republican presidential candidate in 1852; failure as a general in the Civil War. Rare Manuscript Document, 12pp, legal folio, set of Interrogatories and instructions in discovery for the action of Gibbs v. Fremont, and a good example of how much time attorneys must spend to prepare a case. This action involved recovery of funds for four Bills of Exchange drawn by Fremont in Los Angeles on James Buchanan, then Secretary of State of the United States. Most interesting, in good condition with a few small pieces missing, and prepared by E I H & J Lawford, Draper´s Hall, London. VG. Estimate US$ 75-100
