American soldier, politician and diplomat (1798-1879); U.S. Senator; Secretary of the Treasury under Buchanan; Governor of New York; Major General in the Civil War; U.S. Minister to France. Early partly-printed DS "John A. Dix" as Commissioner of the Canal Fund, 1p, oblong 12mo [6.75" x 5.25"], Albany, NY, 4/15/1834. Also signed by Commissioners Flagg and Johnson. A note directing the cashier of the New-York State Bank to pay the Eaming Journal or bearer $7.40 "for publishing notice of Chenango Canal loan." Pay ticket No. 58. Punch cancellation at lower right touching but not obscuring Bronson´s signature, otherwise in very good condition. Estimate US$ 75-100
