Altman, Benjamin American businessman and philanthropist (1840-1913); founded his NYC store in 1865, moving it to 5th Ave and 34th St in 1906, where the building remains; left his wonderful art collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Group of forty DS "Benjamin Altman," each a 1p, oblong 8vo bank check, five on the Astor Trust Co., thirteen on the Farmers Loan and Trust, and the balance on Chemical National Bank. Various cancellations, but most signatures unaffected. VG. Estimate US$ 150-200
