United Nations Chair - George M. Ball.George W. Ball served in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and was well known for his opposition to escalation of the war in Vietnam. He served as ambassador to the United Nations from June 26 to September 25, 1968. The chair is the one he used while ambassador. The chair is well built with wooden arms and blue leather upholstery, held in place with brass tacks. It is very comfortable. At the top of the back is a brass plate which reads "Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations, June 24, 1968." This lot includes a photograph of Ball sitting in the chair in a wooden frame under glass, as well as another photograph of Ball at his amazingly cluttered desk. An opportunity to acquire a bit of very special US Government memorabilia, with a record of the individual this chair commemorates. Estimate US$ 400-500
