He writes Harry Berse of the city, he defends a member of his household without "no slightest race antipathy" [sic], suggesting "what she said may...have been misunderstood...Instead of asking whether the rule which was explained to her was ´a Jew rule,´ may it not have been that she asked whether it was ´a new rule´?"
