Davis: "The Capture of Jeff. Davis" Wonderful Lithograph "Jeff´s Last Shift: Capture of Jeff. Davis, May 10th, 1865, at Irwinsville, GA." By "J.E.B.," printed by J.H. Bufford, Buffords´ Print Publishing. Follows the spurious account of Davis´s capture in which he was caught disguised as a woman and brandished a knife at his captors. With quote in lower margin, "The men had better not provoke the President as he might hurt some of ´em" - Mrs. Davis. Image 9-1/2" x 13-3/4", mounted and matted, overall size 15-3/4" x 20". Evenly toned, with some minor blemishes, otherwise VG. In reality, Davis was caught in his wife´s coat, which he grabbed in error, it being cut from the same cloth as his own, and a shawl she threw over his head to conceal his identity, and was unarmed.
