Owner?s pen identifications on free endpapers. Boards bumped, rubbed, and scuffed, with minor fraying at spine ends; binding shaken at endpapers. Map index in vol. II detached but present. Overall Good, mainly tight interiors. Grant wrote the memoirs at the urging of his friend Samuel Clemens as a way to provide for his family after having been swindled out of his life savings. He finished it on his deathbed and it became a huge success. Estimate US$ 400-500
