Livingston, Robert American statesman (1746-1813); part of the "Committee of Five" who drafted the Declaration of Independence; US Minister to France, instrumental in the Louisiana Purchase; patron of Robert Fulton. Incredible group of 22 books, "Bibliotheque Psysico-Economique, Instructive et Amusante," all in French, Chez Buissson, 1782-97. All are 12mo, full leather, with gilt spines, and every one contains the diplomat´s bookplate, reading "Robt. R. Livingston, Esq. of Clermont. The books were gathered into volumes by year, though each year seems to have had two volumes. The collection includes 1782, 1785, 1786, 1787 [2], 1788 [2], 1789 [2], 1790 [2], 1791 [2], 1792, 1793 [2], 1794 [2], 1795, 1796 [2], and 1797. All include illustrations, and some even have pull-out plates. All are toned, with some wear to exterior, but each is in VG condition for its age. Estimate US$ 2,000-3,000
