Free Black Civil War Pass Choice DS by by the Post Superintendent of the Freedman´s Bureau, 1/2 p, 4to, Natchez, MS, 11/15/1864. According to the pass, "Permission is hereby given to Wm. Anderson, John Singleton, and Monday Brister (Col´d) to go to the Chotark Plantation Concordia Parish La. and bring inside the lines four Bales of Cotton products of their own industry..." in order to turn them over to the Treasury Dept. Endorsed across text by a staffer on behalf of Brig. Gen. M. Brayman. In very good condition, approaching fine. Though the Union held the areas being traversed, travel was highly dangerous for freed blacks with Union papers if they were discovered by armed supporters of slavery. Estimate US$ 30-40
