Nepal Mint, aluminium alloy and brass Tokens (8), VS 2030 (1973), Obv. coin press and the legends taksar (“mint”) and Nepal/2030 in Nagari script, Rev. different figures indicating the value in Paisas and word for token in Devanagari script (7); another, much as before but with central hole and legend token/ek paisa, very fine to extremely fine; and, aluminium alloy Tokens (4), issued at Kathmandu, with values and legends, very fine (12)

These mint tokens and also the undated pieces described above were published with line drawings in the following article: Domrow, Dr. Robert: "Kathmandu Mint Tokens". Oriental Numismatic Society, Nos 62/63.
In a letter to Carlo Valdettaro, Kingston on Thames, dated 6th Jan. 1980, Nicholas Rhodes suggested that these tokens may have been used as follows: "... these pieces are made for internal use in the mint - employees exchange all their loose change for these tokens as they clock in for work and cash them in on leaving. A check can then be made on employees at any time, and specially when leaving - and no cash can be legally in their pockets while on mint premises."
