Nepal, Kathmandu, Jaya Mahipatendra Malla (c. 1670), Mohar, undated (c. 1669), Obv. trident (triśul) in centre within lozenge to the corners of which four panels are attached, forming a square, legend Śrī 2 Jaya Mahipa- Rev. sword (khadga) with wreath, in centre, legend continues in three lines on either side and below, -tendra/Malla/Deva, 5.46g, 12h (RGV 266; KM 177), faint crimp through flan, darkly toned, very fine and a rare and significant denomination from the Malla period

This is the only undated Mohar of the Malla period. Rhodes et al. suggest 1669 as the most likely date of issue. In that year the brother of Mahipatendra had died after being the nominal king for only a short period. Jaya Pratap Malla, who had gone on a pilgrimage to India, may have allowed this coin to be struck in honour of his son. This is one of the most attractive Malla mohars; the obverse design was copied in Tibet to produce one variety of the rare Shri Mangalamtangka, which is probably the first silver coin to be struck in Tibet.
